An absolutely fantastic island, with the ruined Abbey, wildlife, and remnants of reinforcement from WW1 & WW2. Be warned if you visit while the gulls have chick's you are considered fair game, so you may want to take an umbrella for protection. You have to get to the island on one of the boat tours, but it's absolutely worth it. Small shop and toilets on the island. The vies from the top of the ruined Church are spectacular.

The Boat trip is a must 👌 to Inchcolm island, we fell in love with it, simply stunning, quaint and pretty, lots of history, gift ship, coffee and tea from the gift shop available inside but no food, if its raining the gift shop has some chairs they let people use to get in from the rain, dry areas underneath the gift shop near to the toilets ( large bench ) to keep dry or escape to the Abbey in the weather changes during your 1hr 45 mins on the island, look out for gnome island as you dock, it's so cool 😎

Great place to visit, takes about and hour or so on the ferry to reach the island and then dropped off there for approximately an hour and half until the boat comes back. Some only go on the ferry tour but a stop off at the island is worth doing. A haven for wild life and the history associated with the Abbey is fascinating.

We booked online to take the boat trip up the Forth to fabulously unique Inchcolm. We spent an hour and half exploring the island at our leisure, and honestly, it was money well spent. The abbey is a special place to visit. Some are in ruins but most preserved, and you really have a sense of the history contained within its walls. There is a small beach to take a moment to fully appreciate the wonderful experience. Cafe and toilets on the island, and if you get a chance to speak with the staff, please do so. They are passionate about the island and abbey, informative, and really friendly. We got to see puffins and seals as well as many nesting gulls. I highly recommend this truly brilliant excursion.

An abbey ruin in a lovely island near Edinburgh. Just book a three hour cruise in the website of Maid of Forth and you can enjoy 1.5 hour at the island. The abbey has many parts, the oldest part is from 1100s, including the bell tower and the nave. And there also remains ruins of the 1400s church. The ruin is amazing and worth to explore. There are some steep and narrow stairs leading to the top of the monastery. Although it’s not easy to climb, the top floor has a wide view and overlooks the entire island.
Also noted that from April to August is the gull nesting period, so the gulls may be aggressive. Actually I have tried heading up the hill, but the gulls seemed like they wanted to attack me, so I gave up XD.
Anyway, it’s a good choice to visit the island and the abbey in a sunny day. I love the cruise and adventure in the monastery. Good place for kids.
